Memorial Day a way to Celebrate

Memorial Day is May 30th this year, are you ready? Are you in need of an idea for how to celebrate this time honored holiday with your family and friends? How about reading an expert from Abraham Lincoln's "Gettysburg Address". Sharing with those young hearts in your life the meaning behind this historical speech.

Take a trip to visit your state capitol, or your local war memorial; what have you been waiting for? Honor this special day that originated in Waterloo, New York in 1866 as a day to remember our brothers who died during the Civil War (1861-1865).

In almost all communities across our great land you can find graves of military personnel who served our country defending our freedom. Pick some fresh spring flowers and take them to the along with American flags to adorn the sites of our fallen brothers and sisters.

Then as your afternoon is settling into a backyard celebration spread a red white and blue table cloth on your picnic table. Take time to make some homemade refrigerator pickles and potato salad. Dust off the barbeque after the long winter and grill up some chicken kabobs with fresh peppers and cheery tomatoes. To make everyone's eyes sparkle serve up homemade vanilla ice cream topped with fresh picked blueberries and strawberries.

Now sit back and relax enjoying your afternoon and take a moment to thank God for this day and this country. Take the time to remind yourself how much you love and appreciate this great land of ours on this Memorial Day
