Testing The Canon 60d Vs 7d.
For the price I don’t think you can buy a better DSLR Camera today than the Canon EOS 60D.
Recently I laid my hands on a Canon 60D and a 7d for a few hours. I put my own cards in and shot away with abandon.
The feel of a decent DSLR camera is just in different league to compacts and other snappers. Even in only DSLR company these two cameras made lesser, entry level models look like what they are… well… ‘entry level’. null Of course both cameras had the usual feel of the precision Canon DSLR’s and I got the familiar rush at the sound of the lightning fast shutters, but this time I also experienced the thrill of the 5 FPS continuous shooting of the 7D. I imagined myself being a fashion photographer, capturing the split second subtle smile differences in a Mona Lisa-like model with the 5 FPS of the 7D.
The final products gave me more options to choose from than I would typically have and fully demonstrated the value of the high FPS. Above 12 MP it is tough to see the difference in quality of 18 MP’s. I cannot honestly say that I can.
I have a very skeptical view on picture quality as proof of the camera’s capability. There are just too many variables that can make a final product flawless or not. I know that many photographers swear by the difference in clarity between APS-C and Full Frame cameras and there certainly are millions of photographs on the web that claim it is due to the sensor size. But let’s face it. Lens quality, Photoshop, camera settings and the photographer’s skills all play a role and in most cases one or more of these factors is what makes the difference.
I would like to find someone who can do it the other way round. Look at a good photograph and tell me whether it was taken with an APS-C or Full Frame DSLR.
Between the Canon 60D vs 7D, the 60D seems to be the better buy. It is more up to date with the video features and the vari-angle LCD is a winner. Given also that it is roughly 30% less expensive, it is well priced.
If I did not have a bag full of camera kit already I would rush out and buy the Canon 60D today, but I will have to be satisfied with writing a review on the 7D vs 60d.
